About our Ministry

What is the main mission of Families of Virtue?

To reclaim the Christian tradition of virtue for the sake of discipleship and the fulfillment of the Great Commission. We aim to help families grow in Christlikeness by forming habits of holiness grounded in Scripture and Christian tradition.

How is Families of Virtue different from other discipleship ministries?

We focus on the formation of character through virtue. Rather than emphasizing information, we seek transformation. We equip people to become the kind of people who live out their faith faithfully, wisely, and fruitfully. The full meaning of this idea of being a certain kind of person is explained best through the concept of virtue.

Do you offer any materials for churches, schools, or homeschool groups?

Yes. Our curriculum, books, and courses are designed for flexible use by churches, classical schools, and homeschooling families. We also offer training and mentoring to help leaders implement virtue-based discipleship. We are always open to modifying what we have and examining how we can create what is needed.

How can I get involved with Families of Virtue or partner with your work?

You can partner through prayer, financial support, hosting an event, using our resources in your ministry, or inviting us to train your leaders. Visit our "Partnerships" page for more information.

What is the Classical Virtue Academy, and who is it for?

The Classical Virtue Academy (CVA) is our training arm offering courses for individuals, churches, and families who want to grow in virtue and wisdom. Courses are taught online and in person by experienced instructors.

About Virtue

What do you mean by “virtue,” and how is it different from just good behavior?

Virtue is the stable habit of choosing the good in the right way, for the right reason, with joy. It shapes the whole person toward Christlikeness, not just outward actions. Virtue supports and leads to the beatitudes and the fruit of the Spirit making it the missing link in modern discipleship.

Who is Thomas Aquinas?

Thomas Aquinas offers the most robust and biblically integrated account of virtue in Christian history. His work helps us recover clarity, structure, and theological grounding for the Christian life, always in submission to Scripture. His work is also “non-denominational” in that the ideas of virtue do not follow from any denominationally specific doctrines as we maintain they come from the very image of God we bear.

Is this approach to virtue biblical? Where do you see it in Scripture?

Yes. Scripture consistently calls for transformation of character, not just belief or ritual. Key passages include 2 Peter 1:5–8, Galatians 5:22–23, Romans 5:3–5, and the Beatitudes (Matthew 5). Virtue is the shape of mature discipleship.

Can children and teens be taught virtue or is it just for adults?

Absolutely. Children and teens are at the perfect stage to begin forming habits that lead to lifelong virtue. We provide age-appropriate materials and courses that help families grow together.

How can I begin growing in virtue if I’ve never studied it before?

Start small. Explore one virtue at a time, pray for growth, and seek accountability. Our beginner-friendly resources and courses are designed to make this journey accessible and deeply rewarding. Also, feel free to contact us. We would be glad to have a conversation to help you in your discipleship. Our goal isn’t to sell you something or get you to sign up for a membership. Our goal is to help the body of Christ.
